Emergency home care in Brighton, a real client case study

“On New Year’s Eve 2025 in Brighton, an elderly husband in his nineties contacted emergency services as he could no longer cope caring for his wife, who is living with advanced dementia. With hospital admission imminent, paramedics contacted Amaiva Home Care from their list of CQC approved home care providers to deliver urgent support at home.
With just four hours’ notice, Amaiva Home Care stepped in immediately, providing emergency home care so the paramedics could safely stand down and the lady could remain in her own home. This avoided an unnecessary hospital admission, reduced pressure on emergency services, and prevented bed blocking at a critical time for the NHS.
Although the family had already agreed a contract with another home care agency, that provider was unable to commence care on New Year’s Eve. When they later began, their home care service operated within a broad morning time slot ‘between 7 and 11’, with carers frequently arriving closer to 11am. This proved unsuitable for someone who requires consistent routines, early morning support, and calm structure.
After just two days, the husband contacted Leanne at Amaiva Home Care and asked us to return, explaining that the alternative home care service did not compare with our person centred approach. From arriving at the exact times agreed to respecting the home by tidying up and removing shoes as requested, it was the small but vital details that made the difference. Leanne and Emma stepped back in, and this became another new Amaiva Home Care client.
